Modtog 1971-76 undervisning i klassisk slagtøj af Suzanne Ibstrup.
Begyndte at spille med John Tchicaiʼs Festival Band i 1974 og har siden spillet i en lang
række grupper:

Udgivet ca. 50 LP’er / CD’er, heraf langt størsteparten med egne kompositioner.

Har gennem årene modtaget en lang række legater fra bla. Statens Kunstfond, Kodaʼs Nationale Midler, Augustinus Fonden, DMF, Blankbåndsmidlerne og DJBFA.
Modtog 1989 Statens Kunstfonds 3 årige legat.
Modtog 2001 DJBFAʼs hæders pris.

Modtog i 2009 DJBFAʼs to årige legat..
Har endvidere modtaget Statens Kunstfondʼs produktions præmie i 1984 og 1998 for
hhv. LPʼen Stop / Go med Cockpit Music og CD “The Technology Of Touch” i eget navn.
Har sideløbende siden 1990 arbejdet med at bygge og spille på lydskulpturer.
Var 1998 – 2000 ansat ved Ghana National Thearter i Accra, Gahna som huskomponist.
Var i 2002 ophavsmand og primusmotor i det landsdækkende lydskulptur projekt “Syv Møder”. Var/er i 2016 til 2018 ophavsmand og primusmotor i det landsdækkende lydskulptur projekt ”Strange Sounds/Strange Visuals” der foregår på 14 lokaliteter over hele Danmark.

Peter Holmgård laver billedkunst og scenekunst.
Værkerne spænder fra maleri og tegning over skulptur og video til installations- og performance- produktioner og de er blevet præsenteret på museer, teatre, gallerier, klubber, musikfestivaler, nedlagte fabriksbygninger, byrum og langt ude i skoven.

I 1986 dannede PH den nu legendariske performancegruppe KOM DE BAGFRA sammen med en flok mere eller mindre ligesindede. Mellem 1986 – 1998 designede og iscenesatte PH stort set alle KDB’s produktioner.

Siden da har PH stået bag adskillige små og store kunstneriske projekter, nogle gange solo, ofte i samarbejde med andre kunstnere. PH har desuden lavet scenografier til forskellige scene- og filmproduktioner.
